Worker loses leg

A recycling company has admitted breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 following an inquiry by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which found that employees and machinery were in close proximity and posed a threat to those employees.

The inquiry follows the injury to an employee who lost his leg whilst working in a loading shed sorting waste.

Ethos Recycling Limited was fined a total of £37,900 for their corporate negligence.

The HSE investigating inspector, Zameer Bhunnoo, said, ?With the increase of foreign workers in Britain, it is essential that companies who need their skills take care to ensure workers fully understand what is required of them, and how to avoid risks in the workplace. Workplace transport continues to be one of the main causes of fatal and major injuries."
